CURRICULUM

Curriculum

At Oshwal Primary, we believe that Education is a process and not just a product ….it is a journey that needs to be enjoyable rather than be focused on the destination. Our belief is that the mind retains aspects that are fully engrained in it and that usually happens through real-world methods of understanding, application and problem solving. Text book and note books aid as tools in the process.

We follow the Cambridge Curriculum for English, Math and Science.  The other subjects, including Second Languages, Humanities and ICT follow a combination of curriculums keeping in mind the methodologies of active and contemporary learning experiences.

Our Learning Philosophy

We believe that it is important to teach children how to learn rather than just what to learn, and by doing so we believe in shaping them into individuals who are willing to learn throughout life and through live experiences. We are passionate about molding them into life- long learners.

We believe that children are special. Each child is unique and each one has a different learning style, so to cater to all children, a variety of techniques are employed by our teachers which include debates, quizzes, book reading, role playing, video screening, and peer teaching in the teaching and learning process.

The high-tech classroom atmosphere is such that it encourages, motivates and stimulates enjoyable learning sessions thus keeping students on-task throughout.

"Learning is not the product of teaching. Learning is the product of the activity of learners."

John Holt

Our teaching methodologies are crafted in an active manner through activities that assist learners to arrive at a concept or idea by themselves. Learning by doing through insightful, fun-filled, contemporary approaches.

  • By investing time in enhancing reading skills during the reading time allotted in class hours.
  • Oratorical skills are enhanced through recitations, elocution and debating skills.
  • Learning by engaging, performing, demonstrating.…. through individual /group activities/ projects, demonstrations that help in harnessing different skills.
  • Activities such as spelling bee, numeracy week, science fairs, chess competition boost the confidence levels in children.
  • Experiential learning through field trips and excursions serves as hallmarks in their learning process.
  • Technology integrated learning experience….movies, documentaries, videos using projectors that enhances the teaching learning experience within the classroom.

Learning through leading……sets a benchmark in our learners as they work their ways through real life situations and on the ground experience during their leadership training and overnight camps.

We conduct two types of assessments – Formative Assessments (FA) and Summative Assessments (SA).

Formative assessments include projects and topical assessments:

  • Projects include individual and group work. Projects are planned in such a way that students learn skills like communication, team spirit, research, resilience and analysis.
  • Topical assessments are done as soon as a topic is completed so as to find out whether the child has understood a particular topic and identify areas that they need to work on.

Summative assessments are done at the end of each term and they test on all the topics taught till date.

After each assessment is done, the teacher provides effective feedback to the child based on their strengths and weaknesses.

Primary Checkpoint Examinations

Cambridge Primary Checkpoints tests are for the final years of Primary education. It is a diagnostic assessment that assesses learning at the end of Cambridge Primary (generally taken at the end of year 6). It provides a comprehensive, specific question to question feedback and gives a brief on the areas of strength and weakness in learners.

It also serves as one of the criteria tools during transition to Junior High.

This academic year, our year 6 students took up this challenge with enthusiasm irrespective of the challenges posed by the pandemic. They confidently sat for the Primary Checkpoint Examinations June 2021 series on 6th, 7th and 8th April 2021.
