PASTORAL CARE

At Oshwal Academy Nairobi Primary we understand the need of each student feeling secure and supported within the school environment for them to achieve their full potential. Further to this, we recognise that each child is unique and has the potential to succeed in life. To see this through, a team of carefully selected and dedicated homeroom tutors i.e. class teachers begin the day with the learners registering and ensuring that the students are emotionally, socially and psychologically prepared to take on the teaching and learning of the day.

The same homeroom tutors wind up the day together with the learners in a ‘circle time’ whereby events and moments of the day are shared are reflected on to one own’ learning process.
We have tutor –tutee groups which are smaller units of between 8-12 students to a member. The groups are more focused on tutors getting to know pupils well holistically rather than just the academic aspects of the pastoral role. Our pastoral care is grounded on the concepts of how pupils learn to behave in society, building personal resilience, developing healthier lifestyles, principles such as equality, diversity, and democracy. It fosters nurturing where healthy emotional development and feelings of security are important to prevent barriers to learning, hence achieving self-full potential and making a positive contribution to the society.
