PASTORAL CARE
At Oshwal Academy Nairobi Primary, we understand the need of each student feeling secure and supported within the school environment for them to achieve their full potential. We recognize that each child is unique and has the potential to succeed in life. Children’s well-being has always been our top priority at Oshwal Academy Nairobi Primary. The school has a dedicated pastoral care team leading our programme across the school in conjunction with our school head teacher.
The pastoral care team is led by a pastoral coordinator who effectively works with the school counsellors, proctors, Head of year groups and our carefully selected and dedicated homeroom tutors. The homeroom tutors work as a point of contact between parents and the school, monitoring the social, intellectual and emotional progress of the children and providing feedback where necessary to ensure their needs are being met.
Homeroom/class teachers begin the day with the learners registering and ensuring that the students are emotionally, socially and psychologically prepared to take on the teaching and learning of the day. The same homeroom tutors wind up the day together with the learners in a ‘circle time’ whereby events and moments of the day are shared and reflected on to one own learning process.
Our curriculum also makes space for life skill lessons taught by licensed counselors and activities designed to ensure that children develop emotionally and socially. The activities are more focused on tutors getting to know pupils well holistically rather than just the academic aspects of the pastoral role. Our pastoral care is grounded on the concepts of how pupils learn to behave in society, building personal resilience, developing healthier lifestyles, principles such as equality, diversity and democracy. It fosters nurturing where healthy emotional development and feelings of security are important to prevent barriers to learning, hence achieving self-full potential and making a positive contribution to the society. We prepare and equip future global citizens.
